ACT Against COVID, the Alliance for Comprehensive Testing, is committed to educating the public about the value of comprehensive COVID-19 testing. Led by Quest Diagnostics, the Alliance believes that in addition to current safety protocols (e.g. hand washing, social distancing and wearing masks), comprehensive, widespread testing is an essential part of slowing the spread of COVID-19 and returning to daily activities responsibly.
A comprehensive testing strategy includes using the right COVID-19 test at the right time:
- PCR or molecular tests are considered the gold standard for detecting active infections.
- Rapid antigen tests are accessible, easy to perform, and a reliable first step in screening for COVID-19 in high-risk settings like nursing homes to inform infection control and help prevent transmission—particularly when PCR testing is not available.
- Antibody tests can serve as a “time machine” and an important surveillance tool to reveal past COVID-19 infection, enabling individuals and their doctors to make a more informed decision about their health and healthcare. It can also support public health by providing a more complete picture of COVID-19’s spread and how it’s changing over time.
Our members use their platforms to arm people with the testing information they need to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. By educating and empowering the public, we will leverage testing to inform health policy decisions and improve health outcomes.
